Oktoberfest is the world’s biggest Volksfest (i.e. a large event in German-speaking countries that combines beer and wine festivals with a funfair). Celebrated each year in Munich, Bavaria (Germany), the festival runs for 16 to 18 days from mid-September through to the first Sunday of October (thus the name “Oktoberfest”).
The first Oktoberfest was in October of 1810 to celebrate the wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The people of Munich were invited to Theresienwiese ("Theresa's Meadow") to join in the festivities — a 3500m horse race, children’s choirs and of course, lots of beer and wine! It didn’t take long for Oktoberfest to become an annual tradition — and it’s easy to see why.
More than six million national and international tourists gather for Oktoberfest for beer and wine tasting as well as a huge range of other fun activities including amusement rides, side stalls and competitions. Plus, Oktoberfest is now celebrated in cities all over the world — including Australia! Considering Aussies are famous for loving beer, it’s no wonder why Oktoberfest is celebrated in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide every year.
If you’re looking for a traditional men’s Oktoberfest costume, look no further than lederhosen.
Lederhosen are short or knee-length leather breeches that were traditionally worn by working-class men in German Alpine regions like Bavaria. The longer versions are called Bundhosen or Kniebundhosen. Lederhosen was originally made from leather because the material was harder wearing and easier to clean after a long day’s work.
Nowadays, lederhosen are worn for leisure rather than work and you’ll often see them worn at Oktoberfest, Alpine florals and all! With a white short-sleeve top underneath the suspenders, long white socks and an Alpine hat, it’ll be obvious where you’re off to for the evening… Oktoberfest beers with the boys!
Our lederhosen is available in brown, green, red and black — plus, we’ve got plenty of accessories available including impressive fake moustaches and Alpine hats to top off your men’s Oktoberfest costume.
Who said you had to wear lederhosen to Oktoberfest?! It’s a fun, outlandish occasion — there’s nothing wrong with a joke costume for Oktoberfest! For example, we have two adult-sized beer bottle costumes — Lükinbetter and Studmeister. These costumes are guaranteed to get a laugh or two at Oktoberfest, and no one can say you aren’t dressed for the occasion… You’ll be a beer at a beer festival!
Alternatively, get carried around for the evening with our Adult Piggy Back Carry Me Lederhosen Costume. This hilarious costume makes it look like you’re being carried by a moustached Bavarian man so you can focus on not spilling your beer.
If you’re looking for something quick and affordable, we recommend opting for one of our Oktoberfest hats matched with a few simple accessories. Our Plush Beer Hat matches well with Beer Mug Suspenders and jeans, or you can stick with the blue and white Bavarian theme and opt for our Jumbo Oktoberfest Hat in Blue & White! Just add the matching Blue & White Suspenders and Tie for a silly yet sophisticated look for Oktoberfest.
No… but it’s certainly encouraged! A few decades ago, it would have been odd for someone to turn up to Oktoberfest in traditional costume but now, it would be strange if you didn’t! With this in mind, we recommend slipping into some lederhosen, pulling up your socks and polishing off your outfit with an Alpine hat in the spirit of Oktoberfest.
We do our best to make sure the colours of our costumes and costume accessories are as accurate as possible online. However, due to variances in computer monitors and other screens, we can’t guarantee that the colours will be an exact match. If you’re worried about the colour of the costume you’re thinking of purchasing, feel free to get in touch with our team — we can help find the right colour for you.
No — all of our costumes and accessories are available for sale only. If you’ve ordered online and your costume doesn’t fit, we can provide a refund so long as it’s within 45 days of the initial purchase. The costume will also need to be in the original packaging (as sold), unworn (except for trying it on for size) and there must be no missing pieces in the pack.

Unfortunately, we are unable to process exchanges in-store or online — we can only provide a refund. However, as soon as you have posted your costume back to us, you can purchase another costume to make sure you have a costume ready in time for Oktoberfest.
